Thurs April 18 dinner. Valaoritou.

Wondering what more could go right?

Dinner at Brasserie Valaoritou was just a delight. On Valaoritou, in Kolonaki, just three blocks from this hotel. Kolonaki is an pscale neighborhood... all the embassies, large gated homes, etc. The opposite direction from the ancient sites. Away from tourists.

Name sounded French, but menu looked Greek. Maybe a mixture.

Lemon Oregano grilled chicken - a half a chicken expertly deboned, pounded, then grilled. Fried potatoes, sauteed broccoli. Mike had sea bass with tumeric and other spices in the accompanying yogurt sauce. Fish Tom Yum I think it was. Bread assortment great - French epi rolls, butter cracker like pretzel shaped crackers, and more. Dessert was heavy whipped cream w hint of strawberry, separated by three phyllo triangles that were saturated w caramelized sugar... that was to the hard crack stage.

The inside was modern, modern with bright green painted walls, black ceilings, red rectangular lights, yellow chairs. Stunning back lit yellow glass behind bar. And only six tables filled, out of maybe 20.  This is a Thursday night.  Recession going on here.

Food in Greece is really really good. Who knew?
