Figuring out IPAD blogging. And reading Pilgrims Progress

Ten days 'til lift off!

I've been getting ready. Slowly.

Have read through the DK book on Athens and the DK book on Israel. Interesting that Mike and I stumbled into these two choices for one visit. Athens, the birthplace of much of western civilization. And Israel, the birthplace of Christianity.

Just today I ordered Rick Steves book on Athens/ the Peloppenese. Supposedly it has four walking tours outlined for Athens, which looked like they followed the ideas I had on how to organize our days there. After all this research, my plan is to wake up each morning there, have our breakfast on the top floor of the Grande Bretagne Hotel overlooking the Acropolis, and decide what we want to do that day. But to choose, you have to know your choices! I do.

As for Israel, we follow the A&K tour so no worries there. We have read some of the entries in the Pilgrims Progress book (by Wallace), which is excellent. It's two pages per geographical location... giving insights into the connection between that place and the bible.

For example, Capernaum means Nahum's village. Some say it has no connection to the minor prophet Nahum, others disagree. I think there will be alot of "it was here" or "no it wasn't here." Instead of getting too caught up in proving something that can't be proved, I want to focus on the "it is highly probable it was here or somewhere like this."

So Capernaum. It is also said to be the hometown of Peter, Jesus' disciple. Now Nahum was a prophet sent to the non-Israelites of Nineveh.  And Peter is the disciple who had the dream confirming that
God's kingdom is for the Israelites and the non-Israelites alike. (Acts 10) So here in Capernum we see Christianity meant for the entire world.

Capernaum is a fishing town on the Sea of Galilee, or Sea of Kinneret. Jesus spent most of his three years in ministry in this area. Peter and his brother Andrew were fishing (their occupation) when Jesus saw them, called to them. And they chose to become "fishers of men." James and John were also in Capernaum fishing, those Sons of Thunder.

We have also decided to pack carry on only. Encouraged by Joan. Found out that international carry on is slightly smaller than domestic. 22" x 14" x 9". So that is what we will do. One suitcase and one tote per person. We will be going casual, no fancy dress for me. Adventurous Mike and Sara. That's the thought.

I just typed this entry on my IPAD, with a bluetooth Microsoft keyboard. Nice. But I need to figure out how to get my photos to upload to the blog. Need to get them on Picassa. Off to figure that one out..
